Development
For Inceptum 32 the goal was to make a 3D puzzle game for a possible client who gave us some restrictions, as that was something we would eventually see in the real world. One of these restrictions was that our team wasn't allowed to create weaponry and that we would need to design 3 puzzle rooms within a very limited space. This forced us to become really creative and made us stronger in solving such a specific request of a possible client.
After our brainstorming session, we came up with a game concept where we took a lot of inspiration from the Portal and Half-Life game series. The game would take place in a brutalistic-styled facility somewhere along the British coast. There you'd play as the world-renowned scientist named Dr.Longfreeze, who was betrayed by his colleagues and became a test subject for his own invention.
For this project, I was tasked with designing the puzzles and their respective rooms, the code behind the rooms, the overall sound that players needed to hear, and I wanted to do most of the voice acting. I also started to learn more about world-building and also puzzle design. My biggest hurdle was keeping myself focused whilst having so many objectives that needed to be finished. But I managed to ask around for help within the team and we got to redistributing the weight, giving me more freedom to work on the important parts of the game.
In these 9 weeks, I gained a lot of experience in planning, better communication with the team, and also in negotiating with my possible client if some requests needed to be reworked.
