Development
Wasteland Brum Brum was made within a 2-week timespan by 2 artists and 2 developers.
The goal of this project was to create a 3D racing game that was taking place during the night.
During the development of the game, we decided to take our inspiration from the well-known Mad Max movies and Borderlands games. This decision was made because we wanted to be more original than the other groups, we also made this decision because the artists from the group sought a new challenge for themselves. What made me kind of excited for this project, was mostly the idea of working on a genre that I have not been in contact with ever since I started programming games.
For this project, I was tasked with the making of the player vehicle controls, and since this was a new genre for me I looked for ways to make a player controller for a car.
After I managed to get a base script working for the car I went directly to optimize the car.
My biggest hurdle in making this controller better was mainly in the physics and the overall feel of moving a speedy yet heavy object.
Most of these issues were solved by continuous testing and reworking.
